In my experience, it is very dangerous.
Because of EUC, thrills are unparalleled when carving over the paved surface. I’ve never had such a feeling of empowerment similar to riding electric unicycle.
Electric unicycle accidents increase along with the popularity and accessibility of this technology.
Driver behavior may be unenforced which can lead to some unpredictable situations.
One type of unpredictable situation is when you’re riding in the bike lane with a green light and then suddenly a driver takes a left turn on red. This is more likely to occur on streets with a one way direction even if there is a sign that says, “NO LEFT ON RED.”
Safety standards for riders.
Also, many EUC riders do not take significant precautions such as greatly increasing their own visibility or by anticipating driver behavior by anticipating the flow of traffic instead of just blasting through. I’ve witnessed some extremely low visibility riders and they could easily improve their odds by wearing reflective attire at the very least.
Other dangers may occur for the Electric Unicycle rider.
There is certainly the risk of falling off, crashing, or for some malfunction to cause significant injury to the rider.
Which is why you dress for the slide, not the ride. All the gear all the time.
Impacting the ground, especially if you ride with a low stance, should be less traumatic than being impacted by a car. Because if you get hit by a car, first you hit the car, then you hit the ground.
Recovery from injury is not so simple.
People who are experienced riders, risk takers, with some amount of courage and athleticism are capable of amazing prowess on the electric unicycle.
With great power, comes great responsibility. It’s thrilling to take liberties on the road. You accelerate with great precision and the people give their praise.
All of that can be gone in an instant. Your mobility was nearly at the peak of human potential (electric unicycle) and suddenly you’re recovering from one of the worst days of your life.
Healing can take months, years…
Accepting what happened and then being active about your joint health and whole body health.
I have gotten to know other riders on the streets and I can tell you that while you may heal, it doesn’t mean that you’re the same as before.
Please understand that the journey is right now.
Thank you for reading.
